Jeddah is the largest sea port and the second largest city in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It has a population of 3.4 million people inhabiting an area of 579.2 sq mi. located on the west coast, it is the principal gateway to Mecca, Islam’s Holiest site and to Medina, the second holiest place in Islam.

Jeddah’s weather during the summer usually has high temperatures and humidity. Because of its positioning on the Red Sea, the prevailing winds are North-Westerly propelling light-to-moderate winds for much of the year.

Jeddah is also one of the most cosmopolitan of all Saudi Arabian cities, hosting expatriates from all over the world and citizens alike. Economically, it is focusing on further developing capital investment in scientific and engineering leadership within Saudi Arabia, and the Middle East. It was independently ranked 4th in the Africa / Mid-East region in terms of innovation in 2009 in the Innovation Cities Index.

Regionally, Jeddah is a primary resort city of the country. It was named a second-tier beta world city, according to Globalization and World Cities Study Group and Network (GaWC).
